The full name of this indicator is the average directional movement index.

ADX was designed along with the RSI and other analysis methods, by J. Welles Wilder. The ADX measures the strength of the trend, regardless of direction; the higher the value, the stronger the trend. High positive values are normally interpreted as bullish movements and low negative values as bearish movements. To use ADX, activate a chart and select ADX from the analysis selector in the Analyst's toolbar.
