The e-mail data feed is sent out each evening. It consists of high, low and closing prices for 3,000 shares. Currencies, world indices, some gilts and commodities are also included. It is recommended that the price feed is handled in automatic mode.

To use the automatic mode you need to have Outlook or Outlook Express installed on your computer. If you are using AOL you can still update using the manual method. Alternatively you can sign onto one of the free service providers (such as Lineone or Freeserve) and get access to Outlook Express free. To set the update mode, select 'update method' from the 'options' menu and click on 'Internet (automatic)'.

Automatic E-Mail Updating

When the Analyst is in automatic email mode, it can download all your emails and identify the data messages in your in-box. It knows how many days need updating and will update any period automatically from a single-click. Ensure that the Option/Update Method is set to 'Internet (auto)'. Once this setting has been made, the program will remember it for future sessions. Select 'Update' from the 'File' menu and press OK.

The Analyst will now log on and download all your email messages. (If you have already downloaded your emails, you can cancel this step). The program will then update from all outstanding data files in order, and display its progress in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

Retrospective Updating

Updating from a previously missed file can be accomplished in either automatic or manual email mode.

Automatic: Click on 'File' then 'Update'. The Analyst will log on and download all your email messages. (If you have already downloaded your emails, you can cancel this step). Select the missed data message in the in-box displayed by the Analyst. Right-click and select 'update' from the pop-up menu.

Manual: Copy the missing inet.uue file to the Analyst folder. Click on 'File' then 'Update'.

The In-Box:

The Analyst's in-box is displayed after pressing 'file' then 'update' when in automatic email mode. The 'get new mail' button will log on again, if required, to pick up any new emails. The 'view data' button toggles the inbox display between all messages and just the Analyst's data messages. The in-box also displays the date of the last update.
